Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

The CPSC found, however that these requirements weren't feasible or effective in reducing the amount of instances where infants are entrapped by a bedside rail and an adult bed.

Many of the reported incidents in the NPR included cheap bedside cot sleepers with multiple uses that can be converted to other modes such as play yards and bassinets. Many commenters suggested that the CPSC add a second option to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers that are multi-use that would allow them to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets by using an attachment that is removable. The attachment can be permanently fixed or removed when the item is not being used as a baby bassinet.

The CPSC is currently examining these and other comments received in response to its NPR on sleepers who are bedside. The Commission will consider these comments when voting on the final rule that is expected to come out in November 2021.
